THE PROPHECIES OF THE MESSIAH'S FIRST ADVENT
You are welcome to another edition of Insights from God's Word, a Bible study programme that is committed to sharing God's Word by allowing the Bible to speak for itself. In this edition, we continue with our series on The Plan of Salvation. The topic for this study is: The Prophecies of the Messiah's First Advent. In this study, we are going to consider various Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah and their New Testament fulfillment. At the end of the lesson, we will know without any shadow of doubt that Jesus Christ was the promised Messiah of the Old Testament Scriptures.
Friends, when Jesus walked among the Jews, few believed on Him as the promised Messiah to come. Even though His works spoke aloud that He was not a mere human, many of His own countrymen, the Jews, did not believe in Him (see

Friends, it is clear from the passages we have reviewed so far that the Old Testament prophecies concerning the Messiah had their exact fulfillment in the Person of Jesus Christ. The very fact that all these Messianic prophecies in the Old Testament fit Jesus makes it clear that He was the Promised Messiah to come. It is important to note that many of the Jews found it difficult to accept Jesus Christ as the Messiah as they were looking forward to a King who would deliver them from Roman oppression (see
At this point in our study, one may argue that Jesus was an imposter who only read the Scriptures and tried to live a life that would fulfill the prophecies of the Old Testament. But beloved, this argument is flawed when we realise that there are several key prophecies of the Messiah that Jesus could not have imposed on Himself. For instance, Jesus could have learned to speak in parables, but He could do nothing about His place of birth. He could assert that He was the Son of God, but He could do nothing about being from the tribe of Judah. He could have prophesied about His death but He could do nothing about keeping all His bones. We can go on and on about Messianic prophecies that Jesus could not have imposed on Himself.
So you see beloved, the argument that Jesus Christ was an imposter is only a fabricated story. The Scriptures make it clear that He is the Messiah, the seed of the woman who was to come and deliver the race of Adam from sin, suffering and Satan (review
Exhortation: From the beloved apostle, we read the following eternal words:
3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
