INTRODUCTION

Friends, we greet you in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ

In this study, we bring you the introduction to our series on the Sanctuary. There are several portions in Scripture where we read about the sanctuary. However, the first place we read about this important topic is in the Old Testament book of Exodus. As the Israelites journeyed from Egypt to the land of Canaan, the Lord commanded Moses the following: "And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them" (Exodus 25:8). This sanctuary was to be a minute replica of an original sanctuary in heaven (see Exodus 25:9, 40; Hebrews 4:14-16; Hebrews 8:1-2).

In this series, we will discover that everything about the sanctuary; being the design of the tabernacle and its articles of furniture, or the various offerings for sins, or the priesthood, or the various services and feasts, all pointed forward to the work and death of the coming Redeemer (see John 1:29; 1 Peter 1:18-19; Revelation 7:14). It is humbling to realise that through the grand themes of the sanctuary service, the Lord uncovered His plan of salvation to the human race (see Psalm 77:13).

But through the ages, Satan has sought to keep the inhabitants of this world from coming to a fuller understanding of the sanctuary message. The underlying reason for this action of Satan is basically because the sanctuary doctrine unravels in a vivid manner the beautiful plan of salvation for mankind than any other doctrine of Scripture. Moreover, it is only through the sanctuary doctrine that people will come to understand the present ministration of Christ in heaven - a concept which actually encourages the sons and daughters of God to set their affections on things above (see Colossians 3:1-2), as they look forward to the soon return of their Saviour in the clouds of heaven.

Beloved, despite the fierce attack of Satan on the sanctuary doctrine, God in His mercy provides enormous opportunities for His children to obtain the needed light on the topic. Thus, it is not by chance that in this series, we are going to take our time to consider the grand themes of the sanctuary. In fact, the lessons have been designed in a systematic manner to guide readers into a fuller and clearer understanding of this important doctrine of Scripture.
