The Three Angels' Messages: Introduction

INTRODUCTION

You are welcome to Insights from God's Word, a Bible Study Programme that is committed to sharing God's Word by allowing the Bible to speak for itself.

Friends, we greet you in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

In this study, we bring you the introduction to our series on The Three Angels' Messages. The three angels' messages are found in the fourteenth chapter of the book of Revelation. This chapter seems to be the springboard chapter that connects all the other chapters of Revelation together. In the three angelic messages of Revelation 14:6-12 are summarised in graphic detail, God's final warning messages to the inhabitants of the earth just before the glorious second coming of Jesus (see Revelation 14:14-16).

It is important for us to note that the three angels' messages are borne by human agents and not literal angels. The word 'angel' (that is; aggelos in Greek or malak in Hebrew) basically mean a divine messenger. In fact, the word 'angel', when used in Scripture may refer to Christ (Exodus 3:2-6; Zechariah 3:1-5; Joshua 5:13-15), man (Luke 9:52; James 2:25; Revelation 1:20, or an angelic being (Luke 1:26-37 ; Acts 12:5-9). In this instance, the word is used in reference to man, specifically, God's end time remnant people (see Revelation 10:8-11; Revelation 12:17; Revelation 14:12 ).

The closing message that this remnant carries to the world will fulfill the words of Christ inMatthew 24 which says: "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come" (Matthew 24:14. In the proclamation of the three angels' messages, the peoples of the earth become ripen for harvest; the final stage of God's forbearance of evil, wherein the wheat can finally be separated from the tares (see Matthew 13:24-30; Revelation 14:14-16 ).

In this series of Bible prophecy, we are going to consider messages that are filled with dire warnings and dreadful judgements, yet in the midst of all that, we will behold Jesus in a whole new loving manner. The love of the Son of God that stretches to the extreme to save even the most wretched of the sons of Adam who plead His atoning sacrifice is the ultimate theme of this series. If there is anything to promise readers, we will say that none will come away the same after receiving a clear understanding of the important truths that are contained in this Bible Prophecy Series.
