WTM SERIES ON BIBLICAL STEWARDSHIP

INTRODUCTION

You are welcome to Insights from God's Word, a Bible Study Programme that is committed to sharing God's Word by allowing the Bible to speak for itself.

Friends, we greet you in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

In this study, we bring you the introduction to our series on Biblical Stewardship. When the Creator God finished the wonderful creation of the earth and everything in it, He put mankind, creatures in His own image, in charge of all that He had made. From the book of Genesis, we read the following clear words in relation to this point: "1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."

(Genesis 1:26-28)
From the passage above, we obtain a clear insight in regard to the enormous stewardship responsibility that God entrusted into the hand of mankind right after He had created the world. Unfortunately, mankind fell short in accomplishing this stewardship responsibility when they transgressed against the express command of God in the Garden of Eden (see Genesis 2:16-17; Genesis 3:1-6). Even though the Lord was disappointed with mankind’s failure in regard to the stewardship role He had entrusted into their care, He however did not strip them of all stewardship responsibilities. As part of the great plan of redemption (see Genesis 3:15), the Lord once again entrusted mankind with opportunities to serve as His stewards so He could prove their allegiance to Him.

In this series of Bible study, we are going to consider various areas of human life where the Lord requires a stewardship duty from His children. The entire series is dubbed: Biblical Stewardship. The topics in this Special Series of Bible Study are as follows:

1) Biblical Stewardship

2) The Theology of Tithes

3) The Theology of Offerings

4) The Five T’s of Stewardship
