THE EFFICACY OF THE BLOOD

Many people are wounded, afflicted and suppressed by their past because of what they see (sinful acts) in the pages of their life. A recognition of their past deeds (sins) lead them into heartaches, grieving and mourning. In the midst of these emotional torments and psychological traumas, many people give up in life to attempt suicide whereas others yearn to break the chain with hard drugs and drinks because they are encapsulated by a guilty conscience.

Two groups are caught up daily in this state of guilt. The first group always try to redeem themselves from their guilt by finding excuses for their sins or blaming others. They reiterate the slogan of Adam, "it is the woman who caused it". In our context; some will claim that it is the hardship in the system that made us to practice corruption, stealing, fornication, masturbation, gambling etc. This is done to serve as an excuse for our sins. Those who engage in blame game will do so by blaming the boss at work or the man who lured her or the woman who tempted him. Some even go to the extent of blaming their parents, the environment or their genes (the sin in us).

The second group tend to weep or mourn over their past failures. Others turn to enchanters, psychics and occult camps for a remedy, forgetting that it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats can take away sins. Other people who are also brainwashed by false theology run to their religious leaders or prayer camps for confession or anointing. Some also turn to counsellors for counselling. Though these may be helpful, they are not the ideal antidote for sin and its consequences.

We should not try to lessen our guilt by excusing sin. We must accept God’s estimate of sin, and that is heavy indeed. Calvary alone can reveal the terrible enormity of sin. If we had to bear our own guilt or remedy it with our strength or capabilities, it would crush us. But the sinless one has taken our place; though undeserving, He has borne our iniquity. You may be free from financial crisis, loneliness, sickness, illiteracy and the likes but you are never free of sin because we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Are you disheartened or overtaken by sin that you want a breakthrough? Are you burdened with the load of sin or guilt that you want to be free? Come to Calvary for a cleansing. There, Jesus Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness and that is the effectiveness of the blood of Christ. (Genesis 3:12; Romans 3:23; Hebrew 9:12; Hebrews 10:4; 1 John 1:8, 10, NKJV)
