GOD'S DOCKET IN COURT

I have never been to court. I have watched people been tried in court. I have heard people tell their experiences in the law courts. Some are distasteful stories which can never be written any better. One popular court trial that caught the attention of the whole world was that of the Iraqi, Mr Saddam Husein on 5th November, 2006, for his alleged crimes against humanity while serving as president of the Islamic state.

Amazingly, God also has a docket in court awaiting trial. The charges being leveled against God are huge. Satan started these charges in the courts of heaven when he told the angels how God has taken away their freedom. He came down to this earth and told our first parents how God has decided to hide from them some goodies of life -the forbidden tree (Genesis 3). He went to Jesus under the pretext of an angel of light with good news and told Jesus to choose a life of ease, comfort and riches against a life of self-abnegation (Matthew 4:1-11). He continues to level the charges against God. He tells us to challenge how a loving and good Lord has a world full of sorrows and suffering. He tells us to ignore the fact that God exists and believe He is a God who cares less about what happens to His creatures. In fact, he has had the lion’s share of followers, his case is seeming popular and he looked set to win.

The cross offers a strong defendant against all the mischiefs and blatant lies against God. When Jesus cried "It is finished" (John 19:30), we heard the absurd news of all time - God is dead! He died not for himself but for undeserving sinners. The devil’s malice was disproven, he was caught flat footed and that was how God answered the world for all His charges. From the pen of inspiration, we read, "The battle had been won. His right hand and His holy arm had gotten Him the victory. As a Conqueror He planted His banner on the eternal heights. Was there not joy among the angels? All heaven triumphed in the Saviour's victory. Satan was defeated, and knew that his kingdom was lost." {DA 758.1}

To the angels and the unfallen worlds, the cry, "It is finished," had a deep significance. It was for them as well as for us that the great work of redemption had been accomplished. They with us share the fruits of Christ's victory. {DA 758.2}
He is still not done, God's still in the docks. He needs us to bail Him. We can only do that when we strive to live a righteous life trusting the full merits of the cross. Will we accept to bail God?
