Dreaming of a City

"For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come" (Hebrews 13:14). With the current surge in economic prices, the political turmoil in various countries, the prevalence of deadly and life-threatening diseases among others, many today are longing for a better world. The condition of this world seems not to be getting any better as the days go by. Many are fed up with current world events. All the aspirations to make this world a better place through Science and Technology have failed miserably. The issues of global warming seem to elude world leaders, scientists and various environmental practitioners across the world.

Friends, the events Christ spoke of in Matthew 24 is what we are witnessing in our world today. With all the terror and horrible events befalling mankind today, the big question on the minds of many, even professed Christians is this: where is God in the midst of all these sufferings and natural upheavals?"

Beloved, such was the situation before the first advent of Christ on earth. The people of God longed for their deliverance from the hands of the Roman Empire. The heavy taxes imposed on them made them to yearn for the appearing of the Messiah. This experience of ancient Israel is a type of what the spiritual Israel will go through before the second appearing of the Messiah.

Whatever is happening on the face of planet earth today is telling us that we are living in the time of the end. "The fast-fulfilling signs of the times declare that the coming of Christ is near at hand. The days in which we live are solemn and important. The Spirit of God is gradually but surely being withdrawn from the earth. Plagues and judgments are already falling upon the despisers of the grace of God. The calamities by land and sea, the unsettled state of society, the alarms of war, are portentous. They forecast approaching events of the greatest magnitude" {9T 11.1}. The solution to our earth's problems does not lie in the hands of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) discovery of life support systems on other planets. Rather, the solution to our world's problems lies in the unshakable hope in the promise: "I come quickly" (Revelation 22:7, 12). The kingdom of Christ is already prepared, awaiting our reception. Beloved, the solution to our world’s devastating problems is the coming kingdom of Jesus Christ. The time is far spent; the days are like an evening gone. And I am already dreaming of a city where there will be no more sorrow, pain or death. "The King cometh, Prepare to meet thy LORD."
